In Barcelona, Europe, Food, Spain, Travel, Wine

Visiting different cities in Europe allowed us the opportunities to explore new wines and first off was the city of Barcelona, Spain, where our favourite tapas bar; Casa Guinart served wines by the glass.

The Boqueria Market, situated on the La Ramblas, is a gastronomic temple that awakens your sense of colour and smell. It is where people eat, drink and gossip and buy fresh quality produce that the city of Barcelona has to offer.

On the doorstep of the Boqueria Market is the tapas bar, Casa Guinart, which we stumbled on by chance and it quickly became our favourite.

Mostly we sat at the bar counter and were able to watch our food being prepared. Highlights amongst the dishes we tried were the incredible grilled tomato bread, grilled prawns, deep fried calamari and the sirloin steak.

We loosely paired the calamari and prawns with the Torello Brut, which is a Methods Tradicional Cava – Flama D’orBrut. (Castellated D’OR) The Macabeo, el Xarel-lo and Parelleda grapes, in precisely the right proportions, form the base of this cava, fruit of a secular tradition in their elaboration. This cava won a Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial Bruxelles 2012
